You know, dealing with computers can be quite a hassle sometimes, right? We depend on them for so many things, yet occasionally a tiny update can throw a wrench into everything, without any clear reason. Sure, not being able to dive into video games isn’t a life-or-death scenario, but it’s an irritating hiccup nonetheless. Recently, an update to Windows 11 has been giving Ubisoft game players quite the headache. It seems to have made several of their favorite titles unplayable. Over the past week, players have found themselves unable to run certain Ubisoft games following a Windows 11 update, and now Microsoft has stepped forward to confirm that the issue lies with this update—not your gaming setup.
Microsoft has shed some light on the situation, stating, “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games could become unresponsive at the start, during loading, or even in the middle of gameplay. In some instances, a black screen might appear.” They’ve gone ahead and identified the games affected, which include: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
In their effort to tackle the problem, Microsoft has placed a hold on updating certain devices. They’ve said, “To protect your Windows update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on devices with these games installed. These devices will not be offered Windows 11, version 24H2 via the Windows Update release channel… We advise against attempting to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue is sorted out.”
Meanwhile, Ubisoft hasn’t left the players twisting in the wind. They’ve rolled out a temporary hotfix, cautioning users that “you may experience some performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix. As soon as it’s ready, we will let you know.” So, for the moment, it might be a good idea to set these games aside. Chances are, you’ve got plenty of other games in your backlog to keep you entertained in the meantime!
