Fans who enjoyed Final Fantasy 7 Remake might be hoping for additional content for its sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. However, director Naoki Hamaguchi has made it clear that they’re not planning to release any DLC. This isn’t a decision made lightly or without consideration.
In a recent conversation with the Daily Star, Hamaguchi addressed the queries surrounding potential DLC following Rebirth’s launch. He acknowledged the voices of fans who are eager for more content. “We certainly hear from fans who want DLC,” Hamaguchi noted. “I fully understand their enthusiasm, but I believe what fans really crave is the third installment of the series, and they want it as soon as possible.”
Hamaguchi elaborated that their focus is wholeheartedly on finishing the third game. “That’s the main reason we’ve opted not to use our development resources on extra episodes for DLC right now. We’re dedicated to bringing the third game to fruition as swiftly as possible.”
The Remake featured a Yuffie DLC that served as a nice bridge between games, hinting at the potential for solo stories featuring characters like Cid and Vincent Valentine from Rebirth. However, it’s uncertain whether such stories would work well or if Square Enix has other plans, like a remaster of Dirge of Cerberus similar to Crisis Core: Reunion. Who knows, fans of Dirge might just be in for a treat someday!
In another interview earlier this week, my colleague Dom spoke with Hamaguchi about the final part of the series, especially concerning plans for mini-games. Rest assured, he hinted at some exciting changes that will keep players on their toes in the next chapter.
