Hitman World of Assassination fans eagerly awaiting its VR debut will have to hold on a bit longer, as IO Interactive has announced a delay for the PlayStation VR2 release. Originally slated for December of this year after being revealed during September’s State of Play, the game is now set to launch on March 27, 2025. This pushback aims to refine the overall gaming experience and incorporate some exciting additions, such as active manual reloading.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, IO Interactive explained the decision behind the delay. They were fully aware of the high anticipation for bringing Hitman to PS VR2 and were thrilled by the positive response the announcement garnered. However, they felt it was crucial to take the additional time needed to ensure that the game meets the expectations of players who demand excellence.
The team is dedicated to delivering a polished experience where every detail complements the immersive nature of VR. The extra months will not only enhance the game but also allow for the inclusion of new features that will make this VR2 version stand out. Among these features is active reloading, which adds another layer of realism to the game.
This isn’t IO Interactive’s first foray into virtual reality; they have previously brought the Hitman series to Quest and PC VR/PSVR. With this new release, players can expect all the main levels from the popular trilogy, now enhanced with dual-wielding and room-scale gameplay. The game will also feature revamped controls and gameplay mechanics tailored for the VR experience.
A particularly interesting addition for PlayStation VR2 users is the introduction of “positional interactions.” These interactions require players to physically act out movements, such as mimicking actions like using a keyboard or pouring poison, instead of just pressing buttons. Players can now inspect quest items in their hands and perform actions like swiping keycards or turning locks, adding depth to the interactivity.
Players can look forward to diving into Hitman World of Assassination on March 27, 2025, when it becomes available for PlayStation VR2. Those who already own the flat-screen version on PS5 can avail themselves of this VR upgrade for just $10.
