Earlier this week, the nominees for The Game Awards were announced, and fans of Palworld can’t help feeling a bit disappointed that the game didn’t make it onto the list at all.
Every year, The Game Awards seems to double as both a celebration of gaming and a lengthy commercial. This year, one notable absence that has caught people’s attention is Palworld, the quirky game that blends PokĂ©mon-like creatures with, well, guns. Released in January, it captured the attention of more players than anyone anticipated. However, it turns out that popularity alone isn’t enough to snag a nomination, as Palworld hasn’t received a nod in any category, not even for Best Ongoing Game. Due to this omission, some fans have taken to social media, complaining that the game has been unfairly overlooked.
Interestingly, John Buckley, the community manager for Palworld, seems unphased by this chatter. As highlighted by PC Gamer, Buckley shared his thoughts on Twitter, saying, “No, I don’t think Palworld was snubbed. Twitter has become such a banterless place. Stop being so over dramatic gamers. Not everything is a conspiracy.” He makes a fair point about the theatrics often seen online, though his words likely won’t put an end to the drama anytime soon. Buckley did express disappointment about another game, stating, “That being said…Satisfactory was 1000% snubbed and I’ll be voicing that opinion ad nauseam at The Game Awards in person.” You can sense his passion, can’t you?
Meanwhile, it seems the developer Pocketpair has a more pressing issue to address. In September, Nintendo filed a lawsuit against them for alleged patent infringement, a twist not many saw coming. Earlier this month, Pocketpair shared an update, explaining which patents are in question and assured that they are “prepared to continue defending our stance through upcoming legal proceedings.”
It appears there’s quite a bit unfolding behind the scenes for Palworld and its creators. As we keep an eye on the awards and legal wranglings, it’s clear that the gaming world is never short of surprises.
