Hey, big news from Nintendo today—especially if you’re eager to see what’s next after the Switch.
During their Corporate Management Policy briefing, which took place right after they shared the company’s second quarter results for 2024-25, Nintendo confirmed that the next console, whatever it might end up being called, will fully support Switch games. Plus, Nintendo Switch Online will seamlessly transition to this new system.
Furukawa stepped up and shared some insights: “At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.” That’s straight from Nintendo Co Ltd’s Twitter feed.
Now, whether this means you can pop your old Switch game cartridges into the new console, much like how the 3DS let you play DS games, is something they haven’t disclosed yet. We’ll have to wait for more details down the line.
