Pokemon TCG Pocket has made a staggering $120 million in revenue in less than four weeks since its launch, according to data from mobile revenue tracker Appmagic. As highlighted by Pocket Gamer, players are spending significantly on a daily basis, suggesting the game could soon rival, or even surpass, the revenue milestones set by Pokemon Go.
Reaching $100 million in gross revenue was a milestone quickly achieved, but the game hasn’t stopped there. On November 15, it saw its most lucrative day yet, raking in approximately $8.2 million from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
But what’s driving this surge? A few possibilities come to mind. The game might simply be growing in popularity, attracting more players willing to spend on digital packs. The expiration of free trials for the premium pass could have led to a spike in paid subscriptions. Or perhaps it’s just a wave of players who, after enjoying the game for free, decided to invest more financially. I can relate—I spent £30 trying to complete the Pokedex and snag a Mew, only to come up short.
When looking at Pokemon Go’s initial earnings, according to Statista, it brought in about $550 million within its first six months in 2016. With Pokemon TCG Pocket already amassing $120 million in under a month, it’s on track to challenge that record if this pace continues. While purchasing and opening packs is central to the Pocket experience, which wasn’t as prominent during Pokemon Go’s early days, it’s all the more striking considering how much Pokemon Go dominated the cultural conversation back then, highlighting Pocket’s incredible success.
With these numbers in hand, it’s safe to say that Pokemon TCG Pocket is on a winning streak. It’s even been nominated for The Game Awards, can you believe it? Have you chipped in to support Pokemon TCG Pocket? Let us know in the comments!
