James Gunn is gearing up to release the first trailer for his upcoming Superman film later this week. While we’re eagerly anticipating that first glimpse, Gunn has already given us a taste of what’s to come by unveiling the main theme music.
James Gunn has quite the challenge ahead of him. As the co-CEO of DC Studios, he’s at the helm of the new DC Universe, a path that could either spell amazing success or lead DC to reconsider its plans for a connected film universe if things don’t pan out. There’s only so many times you can hit the reset button, despite what comic books might suggest. Recently, Gunn took to Twitter to announce that the teaser trailer for his Superman movie will finally drop this Thursday. This marks our first look at the new DCU in live-action, though it’s worth mentioning that his animated series, Creature Commandos, already holds the title of the inaugural project in the film universe.
For those who can’t wait until Thursday, Gunn treated fans to a sneak peek by sharing a snippet of what appears to be the film’s main theme. You can listen to it in the clip posted above, featuring an animation of David Corenswet’s Superman soaring through the skies. The music has a delightful, mellow charm with a nod to the iconic 1978 Superman film, directed by Richard Donner and scored by the legendary John Williams.
This fresh theme comes from none other than John Murphy, known for his remarkable work on movies like 28 Days Later, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and The Suicide Squad, which was also directed by Gunn. This marks the third collaboration between Murphy and Gunn, as Murphy composed the score for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 as well.
Even after this week’s trailer drop, there’s still a bit of a wait, as the Superman movie is set for a release on July 11 next year. But hang in there! It’ll be worth the wait.
