Nintendo enthusiasts, the wait is almost over. The much-anticipated reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for this week, finally putting an end to a swirling storm of rumors and leaks.
Esteemed insider Nate, known for his credible insights into the gaming world, recently shared intriguing tidbits about Nintendo’s strategy for unveiling the successor to their popular portable home console on the Nate the Hate Podcast. During the latest episode, he disclosed, “I can tell you right now, the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be revealed this coming week. I’ve been informed that it’s happening on Thursday, January 16.”
It’s exciting news, no doubt—just days away from going public. However, Nate added a caveat about the reveal details, saying, “I’ve heard bits and pieces about what’s planned for the unveil. To me, these details seem a little jumbled, but perhaps they’ll make more sense once the reveal happens.”
Nate noted that the upcoming reveal will predominantly spotlight the console itself. He mentioned that there’d likely be scant focus on the games—so if you find yourself watching a game-less trailer, don’t be too shocked. There might be a glimpse of a game running on the screen or even on a TV, depending on how the trailer’s crafted. But brace yourself—software isn’t the star of this show.
Reflecting on past unveilings, he observed, “It might resemble the October 2016 reveal, which did feature a significant dedication to games. Remember, they showcased The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Skyrim, NBA 2K18, and Splatoon 2, without officially announcing all of them right away.”
Nate further speculated, “This time, I doubt we’ll see such a game-loaded reveal. It could be more about introducing the system itself, showing off its functionalities along with the Joy-Con, unveiling the new logo, and perhaps even the packaging.”
Looking ahead, he shared that, based on what he’s heard, there should be a more comprehensive software showcase towards the end of February or early March. This event would likely highlight new Nintendo Switch 2 games, showcasing both third-party and Nintendo titles. As Nate put it, “It’s hard to imagine Nintendo debuting new hardware without showcasing at least one game on the screen.”
Despite the speculations buzzing around online, what we officially know is that Nintendo has committed to unveiling its successor to the current Switch by the end of March 2025. They’ve also confirmed backward compatibility with existing hardware, which is bound to excite long-time fans. The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to hit the global market in 2025—mark your calendars!
