Earlier today, FuturLab dropped some news about PowerWash Simulator VR that might come as a disappointment to many fans. CEO Kirsty Rigden announced that support for the VR version on Quest is being halted due to costs and concerns over job security.
In a public statement, Rigden expressed that the team holds VR in high regard, highlighting their passion for it. However, she pointed out a hard truth: the VR platform hasn’t been generating the revenue needed to justify its expenses. Despite their enthusiasm for virtual reality, it simply wasn’t bringing in enough resources.
“This doesn’t mean VR is off the table forever,” Kirsty assured, leaving the door open for potential future support. But for now, their VR team has been reassigned to tackle new projects. The priority, she explained, was ensuring steady jobs for the team members, which makes it uncertain if official VR support will make a comeback.
The full statement reads: “I am so sorry to let you know that we won’t be continuing support for PowerWash Simulator VR. We absolutely love and believe in VR, so this doesn’t mean that we won’t support it in the future, but we aren’t able to continue with support right now.”
She continued, “We have been faced with crossroads: we have a truly excellent and kind VR team who were working on a platform which costs us more than it makes, while also having a list of job openings that were looking to be filled on other projects. We took the decision to redeploy our VR team into those other projects/roles. Whilst I would love to live in a world where we could support PowerWash Simulator on every platform going, I will always choose job security for my team. Every time. While I know that you must be so disappointed, I also know that if you were in my position you would have made the same decision.”
But the journey for PowerWash Simulator isn’t quite over. On the flatscreen side, players can look forward to upcoming content such as the Shrek DLC and a new Wallace & Gromit Pack. However, Quest users have noticed a lack of updates, the last one being June’s Alice’s Adventures Special Pack. Before that, VR players got to enjoy the likes of Muckingham Files 1 & 2, plus some fun crossovers with SpongeBob SquarePants and Back to the Future.
For those who love PowerWash Simulator VR, there’s some relief—FuturLab confirmed that both the game and current DLC will stay available on the Meta Quest platform, with no plans to remove them.
