February 2025, a month typically reserved for smaller gaming releases (admittedly, partly because one big title was pushed back), just got a bit more interesting with the announcement of a captivating new game you’ll want to add to your list. We’re talking about “Keep Driving,” a driving RPG with a twist—combining turn-based battles and item collection.
For those who haven’t come across this delightfully offbeat game yet, I had the chance to try its demo during Steam’s Next Fest last year. Despite only meeting an untimely demise due to a puddle once, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The game takes you on a road trip to a friend’s house, where both you and your trusty car must bravely face the typical challenges of the road, alongside the everyday needs of a human for food and rest.
Now, mark your calendars for February 6 because that’s when the full version of Keep Driving hits PC on Steam, as shared by the Swedish indie developer YCJY Games in a cheerful tweet.
The new trailer is out, showcasing turn-based vehicular skirmishes with anything from tractors and sheep to ominous potholes. It also teases the other vehicles you’ll be able to pack with essential gear for you, your vehicle, and the hitchhikers you’ll pick up along the way. I had a soft spot for the almost-Volvo from the demo, but I can’t deny the allure of swapping it for a rugged pickup truck, tapping into my inner Johnny Cash.
At the moment, Keep Driving remains a PC-exclusive, though one of the developers hinted on social media that a console release could be in the works eventually, citing a definite nod towards the Switch. I can’t help but dream of a PS2 port, letting me easily switch between it and a bit of classic Need For Speed Underground.
Until then, fingers crossed the complete version of Keep Driving amps up those enjoyable vibes that drew me in during my first playthrough.
