Ancient Dungeon VR, the beloved rogue-lite dungeon crawler, has exciting news for PlayStation VR 2 users: the latest update introduces a multiplayer co-op feature!
Originally rolled out in 2021 via Steam Early Access and the now-retired App Lab on Quest, Ancient Dungeon was crafted for solo adventurers. Players could delve into over 20 hours of winding, treacherous dungeons, battling against pixelated wizards, skeletons, and other classic Dungeons & Dragons-style adversaries in thrilling physics-driven combat.
Midway through 2024, those enjoying the game on Quest and SteamVR were treated to a four-player co-op mode. However, PSVR 2 players were left waiting when the game joined their platform in December 2023, without this multiplayer option in sight.
But the wait is over. Eric Thullen, the mastermind behind Ancient Dungeon, has heralded the release of the multiplayer update for PSVR 2. This new feature enables up to four players to join forces and navigate the game’s ever-changing dungeons, evading traps and clashing with formidable enemies together as a team.
During a Reddit Q&A, Thullen addressed cross-play capabilities, stating that they are not yet available across the game’s various platforms. However, he reassured fans that cross-play between Quest and PC VR is in the works and expected “at a later date.”
Emerging as one of the VR industry’s standout indie triumphs, Ancient Dungeon first captured attention with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020. Its beta version received over 1,000 reviews, earning an impressive [4.8/5] rating, and setting the stage for a thriving community.
Fast forward nearly five years, and the game remains vibrant and continuously evolving, with frequent updates featuring new weapons, cosmetic items, enhanced insights, additional dungeon levels, and relics. Thullen’s team is diligently working toward the game’s major 1.0 release, which they admit is still on the horizon.
For those eager to embark on this virtual adventure, Ancient Dungeon VR is available on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, all priced at a reasonable $20.
