Phasmophobia, the immensely popular co-op ghost hunting game, has been making waves on Twitch since 2020. On Monday, the game’s developer, Kinetic Games, shared that it has sold over 22 million copies. Looking ahead to 2025, the team has an ambitious plan laid out, including a fresh makeover for its simple player character models. Here’s a breakdown of the exciting updates and enhancements expected later this year, as revealed in Kinetic’s latest announcement.
One of the big highlights for Phasmophobia this year is the Chronicle update, which developers previously discussed in a blog post. They’re planning to overhaul the method players use to collect evidence, such as those chilling temperature drops and eerie noises, which will now be stored for the first time ever. The Photos tab will be replaced with a Media tab, offering an ideal solution if one of your teammates gets caught shrieking or bickering during a ghostly encounter.
The developers have promised there will be a deeper level of detail in data collection, too. For instance, the first instance you capture any media type will be marked as Unique and will net you big rewards once your contract wraps up. However, repeated captures of the same content won’t be as lucrative, encouraging players to diversify their toolkit and compile a varied portfolio of evidence.
Following the Chronicle update, we’ll see the Player Character Overhaul. Presently, players select from a limited array of avatars, none particularly memorable. The roadmap hints at more wardrobe options, suggesting players might soon mix and match outfits between ghost-hunting gigs. This would undoubtedly be a breath of fresh air from the current setup, where everyone sports plain, unremarkable attire.
Towards the end of the year, Kinetic plans to introduce a brand new map. They describe it as small, similar to the existing house maps. Existing maps, on the other hand, won’t be left behind. Both the Bleasdale and Grafton Farmhouses are set for a big revamp, complete with layout changes and new specter-filled rooms. Additionally, there are hints of festive updates for Easter and Halloween, along with a sneak peek into 2026, featuring something intriguingly called “Horror 2.0” that’s sure to capture the imagination.
