Studio Fizbin, the creative force behind Reignbreaker, is sadly drawing its curtains later this month. This bittersweet news surfaced on their website and was picked up by Game Developer. After Reignbreaker hits the shelves on March 18th, the studio will bid farewell, with founder and CEO Alexander Pieper attributing the closure to Thunderful’s recent move to significantly scale back their internal development efforts.
Pieper elaborated, “The gaming industry is facing a challenging period, and like many other remarkable studios, we’ve felt its impact in recent months.” He explained that Thunderful’s decision in November 2024 to cut down on internal projects, a decision shared by Thunderful CEO Martin in the latest quarterly update, has inevitably affected Studio Fizbin. Since that decision, Studio Fizbin explored various new ventures post-Reignbreaker, but, regrettably, none came to fruition, leading them to make the tough call to close shop.
In his heartfelt message, Pieper extended deep gratitude, saying, “To each of our fans, thank you for your support—your purchases, fan art, comments, reviews, and unwavering encouragement.” He also expressed appreciation for their business partners and funding supporters like Medienboard, MfG, Creative Europe, and federal partners for their assistance over the years.
Lastly, Pieper reserved the biggest thank you for his talented team, adding, “A special thanks to those still with us and those who have moved on. The spirit of Fizbin and its games comes alive through our incredible team members. You’ve transformed this place into an inspiring hub for attempting the world’s most difficult magic trick: creating games.”
