The original Arizona Sunshine, a well-loved staple in modern VR gaming, is set to conclude its online multiplayer support this coming July, with Vertigo Games attributing this to Unity’s decision to phase out the UNet Service.
For context, since its debut in 2016, Arizona Sunshine has upheld its online multiplayer capabilities. But now, Vertigo Games has announced the cessation of this feature starting July 1, 2025. This change is directly tied to the discontinuation of the UNet Service, which has been integral to the game’s online multiplayer operating smoothly.
For those who might not be in the loop, UNet was Unity Engine’s older multiplayer framework, and the company began its phasing out process back in 2019. A recent update clarified that all development tied to UNet would cease by July 7, 2025, helping to clarify the timing of Vertigo’s decision.
Luckily for fans, this shift doesn’t impact Arizona Sunshine’s solo campaign. Furthermore, the online multiplayer features in Arizona Sunshine Remake and its sequel, Arizona Sunshine 2, will remain unaffected. For those looking to transition, Vertigo Games is offering a $10 upgrade to the Remake version, a deal available to those who already possess the original on platforms like Quest, PlayStation, or Steam.
