Followers of the development of “Hollow Knight: Silksong” know just how long and uncertain the wait for the game has felt. Although it’s been in the pipeline for what seems like forever, no official release date has been announced, nor have fans been treated to a fresh gameplay trailer. What frustrates fans even more is that the small dev team at Team Cherry appears tight-lipped, offering almost no new details. This communication gap has understandably left the Hollow Knight community feeling both anxious and excited over recent years.
Many fans started to doubt if they would ever see the release of “Hollow Knight: Silksong,” comparing it to games like Ubisoft’s “Beyond Good & Evil 2,” which faced similar rumors of developmental troubles. However, spirits lifted recently during a Nintendo event. A quick look at some anticipated third-party titles showcased gameplay snippets from “Hollow Knight: Silksong,” along with a welcome release year of 2025. This revelation sent waves across the internet, quickly becoming a hot topic among gaming circles.
The promotional strategy for “Hollow Knight: Silksong” can certainly be described as erratic. Reflecting on the past five years, it’s hard to ignore the sporadic updates from Team Cherry. Back when they officially announced the game on Valentine’s Day 2019, they included a teaser trailer and an extensive preview video on YouTube. That year was packed with updates, starting 33 days later with more insight into its characters, followed by an in-depth showcase of its gameplay and battles at E3 2019. An end-of-year update further highlighted new enemies and offered a taste of the game’s soundtrack.
However, as the years went by, updates became scant. The Xbox Games Showcase in June 2022 finally broke the silence with its second trailer and the exciting news that the game would join Xbox Game Pass upon release. Yet, despite hints at a 2023 launch, delays were inevitable. The lack of communication persisted until a disappointing announcement of an indefinite delay in May 2023.
The eagerness for “Hollow Knight: Silksong” has only grown with time. Despite infrequent updates, the recent sneak peek at Nintendo’s event suggests that fans won’t have to hold their breath too much longer. With the game set to hit all platforms in 2025, hopefully, this marks the start of more regular updates from Team Cherry to quench the thirst of its dedicated fanbase.
