Bungie has unveiled a new extraction shooter called Marathon, which is generating quite a buzz. We got our first real glimpse of its gameplay today, revealing that the game is set to launch on September 23, 2025, for both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
In Marathon, you step into the shoes of a Runner—cybernetic mercenaries each boasting unique skills. You’ll team up with up to two other players to tackle missions where you face off against hostile AI security forces and opposing Runner teams. As you make your way through these challenges, you’ll gather all sorts of weapons, implants, and gear. Make it out alive, and you get to keep everything you’ve collected for future adventures.
This game encourages a tactical approach where your team aims to grab as much loot as possible before making your escape. Beyond the usual enemy forces, other player teams will also stand in your way. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can opt to go solo, challenging yourself to take down these threats and claim the spoils by yourself.

While the official release is over a year away, you won’t have to wait too long for a taste of the action. Bungie is hosting a Closed Alpha starting April 23, and if you want to get in on it, just join the official Marathon Discord server to sign up.
