Today, ILM and Lucasfilm offered fans a peek into the gaming future with a first look at their new Quest 3 game, “Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset.” This game ingeniously merges virtual and mixed reality, promising an immersive Star Wars experience like never before.
Collaborating closely with Meta, the studios introduced the game to eager attendees at the “Star Wars Celebration 2025,” a much-anticipated event happening from April 18 to 20 in Tokyo, Japan. This initial preview not only excited the audience but also showcased some thrilling gameplay, stirring up even more anticipation with its first teaser release.
While the game is still under development, ILM and Lucasfilm have tantalized fans by revealing that “Star Wars: Beyond Victory” is set in the time frame of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” (2018). When it hits the shelves for Quest 3 and 3S users, the game will feature three unique modes.
The modes include a captivating blend of VR and MR stories featuring the podracer Volo. An arcade-style mode will bring mini-podracing to life on a mixed reality holotable. Meanwhile, the playset mode lets fans transform their physical spaces into Star Wars wonderlands, decorating with a variety of collectible virtual action figures and vehicles.
“We call it a Playset because it’s far more than a game; it offers an entirely new way to step into the Star Wars universe,” explained Alyssa Finley, the game’s Executive Producer. “This innovative mixed reality experience seamlessly blends the physical and digital worlds, and we can’t wait to unveil this sneak peek to our passionate Star Wars fans.”
If you’re planning to be at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo this Friday, you’ll have the chance to try out “Star Wars: Beyond Victory” yourself. Just head over to the ILM and Meta Quest booth in Hall 4, Booth #20-5. Alongside this upcoming title, you can also explore demo stations showcasing the studio’s previous XR hits, like “Vader Immortal” and “Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.”
Though we don’t have a release date yet, based on past experiences with ILM’s Star Wars VR projects, we can expect a gradual unveiling of details as the launch approaches. Stay tuned for more updates!
