Nintendo just announced that you’ll be able to pre-order the Switch 2 in the United States starting April 24. The pricing remains steady, with the console priced at $449.99, and a package that includes Mario Kart World at $499.99.
Initially, Nintendo had to push back the US pre-orders due to concerns about tariffs and changing market conditions. They wanted to make sure they were considering how these factors might impact their business.
The cost of some Switch 2 accessories is on the rise. Joy-Con 2 controllers, which were initially pegged at $89.99, will now cost $94.99. Similarly, the price for the Pro Controller has increased from $79.99 to $84.99. Prices for other accessories like the Switch 2 camera, dock set, wheel set, and charging grips have also seen hikes.
In a company statement, Nintendo mentioned that they might adjust product prices again depending on how the market evolves.
Nintendo aims to officially release the Switch 2 on June 5. Originally, pre-orders were scheduled for April 9 but got postponed after the console was introduced on the same day President Donald Trump revealed a series of broad tariffs. Notably, Trump announced a temporary 90-day freeze on many tariffs, albeit excluding those pertaining to Chinese goods.
Importantly, the prices for Nintendo’s upcoming games, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Banaza—due out on July 17—remain stable. They’ll continue to be priced at $79.99 and $69.99, respectively.
Major upgrades have been made to the Switch 2 compared to its predecessor. The new model boasts a larger HDR display, an additional USB Type-C port, and a more robust graphics chip by Nvidia.
At $449.99, the Switch 2 is significantly costlier than the original model, which launched at $299.99. This price difference prompted a lot of feedback from fans, urging Nintendo to reduce the price.
Acknowledging the delay, Nintendo also offered an apology, reassuring customers and expressing hope to alleviate any uncertainties they might have had.
