Gaijin Entertainment, the game development company known for creating War Thunder back in 2013, has some exciting news for fans of aerial combat in virtual reality. Their eagerly anticipated game, Aces of Thunder, is on its way to PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets, with a release expected sometime this year.
Originally announced in 2023, Aces of Thunder stirred quite the buzz with its initial slated launch in the last quarter of 2024. Gamers were promised a thrilling experience with some of the most iconic aircraft from World War eras to take off on platforms like SteamVR and PSVR 2.
Fast forward to now, Gaijin has expanded the game’s offerings, showcasing not just a variety of planes from World War II but also an impressive lineup from World War I. This means players will get to pilot aircraft such as the legendary Fokker Dr.I—famously flown by the Red Baron—and the SPAD S.XIII, which was the chosen ride of René Fonck, one of the Allies’ top aces. These planes come complete with meticulously detailed cockpits, weapons true to their time, and flight dynamics that promise to immerse players like never before.
In addition to these historic WWI planes, the game features a robust selection of WWII aircraft, including the American P-51 Mustang, the powerful P-63 Kingcobra, the German Bf 109 and Fw 190 fighters, the versatile Soviet IL-2 attack aircraft, the renowned British Spitfire, and the agile Japanese A6M3 Zero. Each plane promises to deliver a unique flying experience.
Though the exact launch date for Aces of Thunder is still under wraps, Gaijin has hinted to Road to VR that we can expect the game to take to the skies in 2025. Until then, eager players can add it to their wishlists on both Steam and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
As for the price tag, the details remain elusive, but we’ll be keeping a close watch for any updates. With all that’s been revealed, Aces of Thunder is shaping up to be a standout title we can’t wait to play.
