According to Engadget, itch.io, the well-known indie game platform, has revealed plans for its next Creator Day on November 29th. This means that on that day, everything you purchase will send 100% of your money straight into developers’ pockets, as the platform has decided to waive its usual 10% fee.
Interestingly, this Creator Day coincides with itch.io’s Autumn Sale, which is happening from November 27 to December 5. This year, their vibrant development community has exceeded expectations, offering over 7,400 projects for the event. The selection features an exciting mix of digital and physical games, along with resources for those interested in creating their own.
The concept of Creator Day was introduced by itch.io back in 2021. This initiative aimed to lend a helping hand to developers who were having a tough time during the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Spencer Hayes, the director of business and content at itch.io, expressed to Polygon, “Our community supports us every day, and we wanted to dedicate a day to give back.” He acknowledged the struggles many were facing and decided it was time to offer some assistance.
Itch.io already stands out with its developer-friendly revenue model, retaining only 10% of sales, which is considerably more generous than platforms like Steam or the PlayStation Store. However, events like Creator Day and other charitable activities organized by itch.io truly highlight its commitment to supporting creators, setting it apart from the larger competitors in the industry.
