I’ve got to say, one of my biggest pet peeves in the gaming world has made its way into Avowed. You know the deal—if you’re prepared to shell out a bit more cash, you can dive into the game a full five days before everyone else.
It seems like gaming companies are constantly coming up with new tactics to squeeze a few extra bucks out of us. As if microtransactions, live-service setups, expansions, and deluxe editions weren’t enough, now they’re banking on the appeal of getting a head start. “Why not flaunt that you’re playing the latest blockbuster hit days ahead of your friends? All it’ll cost is just about a day’s wage!” Please. And sure enough, Obsidian’s jumped on this bandwagon with Avowed. They’ve unveiled their premium edition, which, surprise, surprise, grants you early access—if you’re willing to part with 90 bucks.
That’s right, to jump in early by almost a week, you’re looking at parting with a good chunk of change. Aside from early access, the premium edition throws in two premium skin packs, plus you’ll nab the digital artbook and soundtrack. But come on, isn’t that a bit underwhelming for such a steep price? They’re asking us to cough up that much cash for what boils down to, let’s be honest, not a whole lot. Personally, I think I’ll skip the premium experience. For those who do dive in early, fingers crossed that Avowed doesn’t echo those infamous Elder Scrolls-like bugs and glitches.
On a brighter note, if you’re subscribed to Xbox Game Pass, you can access the game right from launch day, provided you’re on the Ultimate tier. But, alas, if playing early is that important to you, the premium edition is still your only ticket.
