Thankfully, clarification has surfaced, and it turns out that the Ayaneo Flip KB and Flip DS aren’t being phased out, contrary to everyone’s fears.
To clear the air, Ayaneo has stated a few key details. Although production was halted, that decision came after an impressive 98% of their crowdfunding orders were already out the door, leaving just 18 yet to be shipped. This completion rate entitled those remaining orders to options like refunds or trade-ins, as mentioned in previous updates.
Most importantly, the Flip series is here to stay. Ayaneo revealed plans to produce a fresh batch of “several hundred” units within the next three months. They even hinted at the potential for future versions, the Flip DS 2 and Flip KB 2. While similar handhelds with foldable keyboards are on the market, I personally feel the Flip DS design might have an edge, though that’s just my take.
This development is great news for enthusiasts who were holding off for a retail launch instead of diving into the crowdfunding. It appears a retail release is indeed on the horizon under a “limited restock plan,” although exact dates remain elusive. Given the excitement this project has stirred, it’s likely these units will sell out swiftly once available.
The hope is there’ll be enough stock for true fans and that scalpers won’t spoil it. The Ayaneo Flip devices, with their distinctive designs and strong performance, stand out in the gaming handheld scene. It’s promising to see them getting another shot before their next-generation siblings possibly arrive later.
As for the 18 backers still waiting for their devices, they’ll have the choice between a refund or trading in for another Ayaneo handheld, valid until March 27. Ayaneo has reached out to these individuals, aiming to resolve their situations promptly.
Overall, while there’s a bit more time needed for all the pieces to fall into place, Ayaneo’s community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the Flip series remains alive and kicking, with exciting prospects on the horizon.
