Last Thursday marked a remarkable moment for Bigscreen, as orders for their latest PC VR headset, the Beyond 2, came pouring in at an astounding rate. Within just 24 hours, the slim and lightweight headset had sold far more units than its predecessor, Beyond 1, did in a span of six months.
Reflecting on the launch, the initial statistics were nothing short of impressive. In just 25 minutes, Beyond 2 sales overtook the entire first day’s sales of Beyond 1. Doubling that feat within the first hour, they managed to exceed the launch day sales of its older sibling. By the end of those first whirlwind 10 hours, they had surpassed the sales for the first four months of Beyond 1.
In a social media update on Friday, Bigscreen’s founder and CEO, Darshan Shankar, shared perhaps the most remarkable sales figure:
“In just the first 24 hours, Beyond 2 sold ten times more than Beyond 1 did on its launch day two years ago. That’s half a year’s worth of sales for Beyond 1, all in a single day. Truly extraordinary.”
Interestingly, this surge in demand was achieved without spending a penny on advertising. Shankar proudly noted that they didn’t depend on influencers or splashy, costly videos to drive this launch.
However, Bigscreen did choose to send out around ten early units of Beyond 2 to a select group of reviewers. Among those lucky few were notable figures like Tested, Thrillseeker, MRTV, and VR Flight Sim Guy.
For those who may have missed the buzz, here’s a quick rundown: The Beyond 2 comes in two variations—one includes eye-tracking (Beyond 2e) and one does not. They are priced at $1,019 and $1,219, respectively. Both versions feature the same dual 1-inch, 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays as the original Beyond, with significant improvements in the field-of-view (FOV) and clarity. This enhancement is largely due to a new pancake lens design, boosting the FOV to 116 degrees diagonally from its predecessor’s 102 degrees. It’s also designed to be a featherweight at 107 grams, featuring an adjustable IPD mechanism.
Initial batches of Beyond 2 were slated for shipment in April, and Beyond 2e in May. But given the overwhelming response, new orders placed now are expected to ship in June.
