Bigscreen Beyond is a remarkable entrant in the world of VR headsets, known for its ultra-compact design and lightweight build, perfect for those lengthy PC-based VR adventures. At a price point of $1000, or available for $32 a month, it promises to deliver a comfortable experience, although it doesn’t include positional tracking or controllers straight out of the box. Operating with the SteamVR tracking system, you’ll need at least one base station—preferably two—and your controllers, such as Valve Index controllers, to get started.
Stripped down but efficient, the headset features a simple cloth strap. Audio isn’t integrated, and there’s no headphone jack, but a USB-C port is available for your audio device connection needs. For those eager to enhance audio and comfort, Bigscreen offers an additional Audio Strap accessory priced at $130.
In our exploration of the Beyond, we found much to admire regarding its compact nature and exceptional comfort, which makes prolonged VR sessions a breeze without the discomfort often associated with such experiences. Nevertheless, we did notice some drawbacks with the lenses. Their compact design can create unwanted reflections and blur that can occasionally distract from the immersion. Despite this, Beyond is blazing a trail in a new generation of VR headsets that prioritize comfort, with others in the industry soon to follow in its footsteps.
