Capcom has brought back two of its fan-favorite classics, and the great news is that you don’t need a PS Plus Premium subscription to get your hands on them. If you previously purchased Resident Evil Director’s Cut or Dino Crisis on PS3 or PS Vita, you can download these games for free on newer consoles. For newcomers, both the PS5 and PS4 versions are available for $9.99 each and include cross-buy compatibility.
It’s definitely exciting to see Resident Evil Director’s Cut and Dino Crisis available for standalone purchase or free for past owners, even though there’s a bit of a letdown—they don’t feature any trophy support. Sony has pointed out that the decision to add trophies for third-party classics is up to the publishers, and it seems Capcom and Bandai Namco Entertainment aren’t rushing to update their older games with this feature.
Looking ahead to November 2024, another treat without a catch is on offer: Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, which will also be free for those who bought it previously. Notably, not every classic game provides free upgrades or cross-buy options, so players should double-check to confirm if they can download a game without cost.
For those eager to find out which classics qualify for a free PS5/PS4 upgrade, I recommend checking out a fan-made master list. It’s a handy resource to determine if you’re eligible for a complimentary download.
