Meet Portia Maye, who once had the promise of a regular life, cherished by her father and fueled with dreams of seafaring adventures. Her journey takes a dark turn when the ruthless pirate, Mad Molak, attacks her father’s ship, the Nightsdream, wiping out almost everyone on board.
Portia survives the massacre, initially kept alive to aid the pirates with her navigating skills. But driven by an insatiable thirst for revenge, she plots her course of vengeance. Guiding her father’s vessel into the perilous Dragon’s Tooth, she consigns her captors to the sea’s merciless depths. Miraculously emerging as the sole survivor, she stumbles upon her loyal dog, Snug, who becomes her steadfast companion.
Portia’s story echoes the archetype of survival against all odds, marking time as both a victim and a lone hero. Her life took a sinister twist when her haven, Dragon’s Tooth, revealed itself as a Bleed—a mystical junction between worlds. These enigmatic intersections blur boundaries, much like a painter mixing colors on a palette.
“Surviving a Bleed is a perilous journey,” notes Lead Narrative Director Jessi Thind. “While it may spare your life, it can unravel your mind.”
Thus began Portia’s spiral into madness and violence, surpassing even her original tormentor. By the time she exacted her revenge on Molak, she was already entrenched in The Entity’s dark domain. Her enduring humanity survives through her bond with Snug, who aids her in hunting down other Survivors.
For The Black Talon
Taurie Cain, raised under the ominous banner of the Black Talon—a sect of the evil Black Vale—dedicates her life to unraveling the mysteries of The Entity. Her parents’ tragic entrapment within a Bleed propels her journey, as she follows them into unknown realms to save them.
Driven by a devotion to a cause she sees as greater than herself, Taurie swiftly rises through the ranks. Some Survivors, like Haddie Kaur and Elodie Rakoto, have crossed paths with the Black Vale, but Taurie willingly embraces the shadows, believing fervently in transcending humanity.
"Taurie genuinely believes her path is righteous," explains Thind. "Yet, her rise through the ranks has led her deeper into darkness, confronting a choice that altered her destiny."
During one fateful mission, she faces Jordan Rois—an opponent of her cause—poised to strike but ultimately hesitates. This moment proves pivotal, leading her into The Entity’s domain.
Here, Taurie faces a grim realization: her years of commitment have led only to a cycle of pain. Yet, her unwavering faith remains an asset in The Fog, as she maintains everything serves a greater plan.
“Taurie might find her dedication beneficial in The Fog, looking to earn recognition as a Killer,” adds Thind. “But why did The Entity choose her as a Survivor?”
“The Entity feeds on emotions,” Thind suggests. “Perhaps Taurie’s presence stirs tension with other Survivors, fueling the Entity’s hunger.”
Despite tensions, Taurie remains fierce and resourceful, using her grit and unique skills to survive, often parting ways with fellow Survivors to craft her own destiny.
Interestingly, both Portia and Taurie have ventured through Bleeds, yet only Taurie remains unaffected, raising questions about what might have been if roles were reversed. But once caught in The Entity’s web, divergence is not an option—particularly when ensnared in The Fog.
