According to a report by Eurogamer, Corinne Busche, the director behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is parting ways with BioWare and EA after an impressive 18-year tenure.
In an announcement that surprised many, Corinne Busche revealed she’s taking on a new challenge, stepping into a role that has her creating a CRPG she simply “couldn’t turn down.” While the specifics of her next move and the details of this enticing project remain under wraps for now, it’s clear she’s thrilled about the new opportunity.
Reflecting on her time at BioWare, Busche shared her thoughts: “My departure was mostly guided by a need for personal fulfillment. I accomplished what I set out to do at BioWare—helping steer the ship in the right direction. I have a deep love for Dragon Age and BioWare, and having the chance to bring the game back to its roots as a quality single-player RPG was an honor of a lifetime.”
She continued, “The journey was incredibly challenging, given the tumultuous development cycles these games often endure, but we managed as a team. It was tough, and it unquestionably took a toll on me. There is still plenty of work needed within BioWare’s culture, although I do believe they’re on the right path.”
Busche chose to leave voluntarily, prompted by an unmissable opportunity. Though she remains tight-lipped about the specifics, she assures fans that her next project will contribute to the CRPG genre and will celebrate the tradition of deep, engaging characters.
In addition to her pivotal role in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Busche has also contributed to several Electronic Arts projects, including expansions for The Sims 3, The Sims 4, and The Simpsons.
Despite mixed reactions from some corners of the gaming community—who criticized Dragon Age: The Veilguard as being “woke”—the game was well received critically. It earned an 82 on Metacritic, though review bombing incidents were noted, prompting Metacritic to reiterate its commitment to monitoring user reviews for terms of use violations.
