This week kicks off with a shake-up in Nintendo’s eShop, and there’s a lot of fuss about it that just can’t pass unnoticed (00:00:31). We then dive deep with James, who spends what some might say is an excessive amount of time discussing Xenoblade Chronicles X (00:07:26). Eventually, he hands the reins over to Greg and Jon so they can have their say as well (00:48:11). Meanwhile, Guillaume has finished his journey with Final Fantasy V (01:10:21) and has picked up the quirky handheld device known as the Playdate, complete with its unique crank (01:17:08).
After the break, things get a little serious as we wade into the thorny topic of tariffs (01:31:41). James insists he doesn’t want to dive into politics, yet the conversation veers in that direction nonetheless, given the nature of the issue. It’s a tangled, frustrating topic. To lift the mood before we wrap up, we tackle a whimsical question from Listener Mail about what it would be like to live inside the world of Monkey Ball and its unending motion sickness (02:17:07). If you’re eager to sign up for that virtual rollercoaster, drop us an email.
Looking ahead, we’re planning to revisit Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap next week with our RetroActive segment. We’ve been a bit slow on the promotion front lately, but we’re eager to hear your thoughts. Share them with us either through email or by joining the conversation on the NWR Discord.
Guillaume Veillette did a stellar job editing this episode. Our show’s theme, “Men of Leisure,” crafted specifically for Radio Free Nintendo by Perry Burkum, is just one of his many talents you can enjoy on SoundCloud. The Radio Free Nintendo logo crafted by Connor Strickland is as striking as ever, and his latest projects are worth checking out on his website.
The closing track for this episode is the exhilarating “Captain Falcon Theme” from F-Zero GX, a favorite requested by Adolph Vega. Big thanks to Nintendo Co., Ltd. for the enduring legacy of epic music.
