The latest update for Starfield brings fantastic news for achievement collectors: Creations will no longer hinder your ability to earn those coveted in-game rewards. Prior to the release of update 1.14.74, using Creations in Starfield meant players couldn’t unlock achievements, a real downfall for completionists. Thankfully, this has changed. Now, thanks to the Verified Creators program, mods created can enable achievements if the modder chooses to do so.
This recent Starfield update isn’t just about minor tweaks. With version 1.14.74, the game has undergone significant quality improvements that include better frame rates and the fixing of over 30 bugs. Importantly, it makes sure achievements can now be unlocked regardless of whether Creations are being used. Starfield hit some bumps when it first launched, but Bethesda’s commitment to rolling out these updates has been appreciated by the gaming community. Making Creations achievement-friendly definitely stands out as a major win for players focused on collecting achievements.
Starfield’s relationship with mods has always been interesting, especially considering how integral fan-made mods have been for Bethesda’s other games like Skyrim and Fallout 4. With platforms such as Nexus Mods hosting countless mods, Bethesda also operates its Creation Club, which allows modders to use its Creation Kit to develop mods. By gaining access to the Verified Creator program, these modders can earn from their creations, enhancing the value of Starfield through official Creations. Previously, however, not being able to earn achievements was a significant downside for using these mods.
It should be noted, though, that achievements won’t retroactively unlock on saves that already have Creations, even if the mods now support them. This might disappoint some, but it’s a necessary clarification from Bethesda.
Starfield’s Creations platform has had its share of challenges since its launch in June. There’s been criticism over mod prices, which some users find too high. Yet, there are plenty of free options available too. While it’s understandable that players might hesitate to invest in mods without guaranteed long-term support, the decision to make achievements accessible is a positive step forward.
Surprisingly, the Creations platform didn’t initially come with achievements enabled, but thankfully this wasn’t a permanent limitation. While not every player is an achievement hunter, making sure Starfield appeals to a broad audience is crucial for its lasting appeal. Unlocking achievements without sacrificing the use of mods is a significant leap forward for the game and sets a promising precedent for future updates.
Additionally, the update introduces a free land vehicle add-on Creation known as the Deimog, adding another layer to the Starfield experience.
Though Starfield still has some way to go to reach the legendary status of Bethesda’s previous classics, updates like 1.14.74 show strong promise for the game’s evolution. Despite some ongoing concerns about Creation prices, it’s encouraging to see players can now enjoy mods without missing out on achievements, paving the way for a more enriched gaming experience.
