Thought you had your calendar all set for a Star Wars Skeleton Crew binge on Disney Plus this December 3? Better think again because Disney decided to shift things around. The much-anticipated addition to the Star Wars saga will now hit the streaming service a little sooner than planned, landing instead on December 2. It’s just a day earlier, which might seem like a small change, and only Disney knows the reasoning behind this tweak. Nevertheless, fans can rejoice as the initial drop will include a two-episode premiere. So, if the first episode reels you in, there’s no waiting game for the follow-up. Alongside this news, Disney also revealed the directors for each of the show’s eight episodes, and a glance at the list shows some well-known talents at the helm.
Leading the charge is Jon Watts, the mastermind behind the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy, who will also direct the series’ finale. David Lowery, known for a diverse range of films from Peter Pan & Wendy to critically acclaimed works like The Green Knight and A Ghost Story, takes on episodes two and three. Then, Oscar-winning duo The Daniels, celebrated for the 2022 sensation Everything Everywhere All at Once, steps in for episode four. Episode five will be directed by Jake Schreier, who is gearing up to release Marvel’s Thunderbolts.
Bryce Dallas Howard, familiar with the Star Wars realm through her work on The Mandalorian, will direct episode six. Meanwhile, Lee Isaac Chun, another talent from The Mandalorian and this year’s hit Twisters, will handle episode seven.
As for the storyline, Skeleton Crew’s synopsis teases a gripping adventure: it chronicles the tale of four kids who uncover a mysterious secret on their seemingly safe home planet, only to find themselves lost in an unfamiliar and perilous galaxy. The journey to find their way back and the new allies and enemies they encounter along the way promises an epic Spielberg-style adventure. Among the cast, Jude Law’s presence stands out as one of the more recognizable faces, adding to the excitement.
