Darrington Press, the publishing wing of Critical Role, just made an exciting announcement: their Tal’Dorei Reborn sourcebook is coming to the Alchemy Virtual Tabletop. Now, for those who aren’t familiar, this is the Dungeons & Dragons 5e setting guide that originally saw the light of day with Green Ronin back in 2017, and then had a bit of a makeover in 2022. It’s centered around Exandria’s continent, the backdrop for Critical Role’s first campaign. Fast forward a few decades past the legendary adventures of Vox Machina, and this virtual rendition of Tal’Dorei Reborn promises a truly immersive experience, capitalizing on Alchemy’s forte in delivering top-notch audio-visual elements such as detailed maps and evocative music.
For anyone interested, this guide paints a vivid picture of Tal’Dorei’s rich history. You’ll find in-depth explorations of deities, factions, creatures, and iconic characters residing in this expansive land. It even includes stat blocks and lore surrounding Vox Machina themselves. Each key region within Tal’Dorei comes with its own guide, offering narrative springboards that let players either retrace the steps of their beloved characters from actual play or strike out on their unique storytelling paths. On top of that, dungeon masters will find new subclasses, backgrounds, and magical items to add more layers to their campaigns. With this announcement, Tal’Dorei Reborn now boasts digital adaptations on four platforms in total—also including Roll20, D&D Beyond, and Demiplane.
Though Critical Role’s fame often lies in their detailed battle maps, Alchemy ventures into a different domain: theater-of-the-mind gameplay. Unlike the tactical combat grids you might find on D&D Beyond, Alchemy offers players custom motion overlays, picturesque backgrounds, and captivating soundtracks to enhance storytelling. It’s a bit of a newcomer on the scene compared to heavyweights like Roll20, but Alchemy has quickly become a trusted partner for a slew of third-party D&D and other tabletop creators, including names like Free League, Modiphius, and Hit Point Press. They even feature settings from international creators, such as Italy’s award-winning Two Little Mice, and provide system-neutral assets from favorites like Czepeku on Patreon.
For fans of Critical Role, also known as Critters, the Tal’Dorei Reborn campaign setting is available at a price of $29.99, while the Enhanced Edition comes in at $39.99.
