We all have those trusty videos tucked away for when we need a good laugh during tough times. You know the ones—videos that can always lift our spirits no matter the circumstances. My go-to favorite has to be “Heavy Rain – Covered Market [Super Klutz Edition].” It’s a gem from the channel NahmanJayden, where the player purposely botches every single button prompt during a chase scene in the game Heavy Rain.
Even if you’ve never played or even heard of Heavy Rain, this video is laugh-out-loud funny on its own. Still, if you are familiar with the game, it hits differently—so much so that I should probably explain why. But hey, if you’re not up for my detailed breakdown, just go watch the video. You won’t be disappointed.
Back in 2010, Quantic Dream released Heavy Rain, a game penned by David Cage and directed by Cage alongside Steve Kniebihly. At the time, having a game so centered on storytelling was a rarity outside the niche realm of visual novels. But Heavy Rain broke the mold—it was a big-budget action-adventure thriller with a gripping and sinister mystery. The narrative tracks four characters entangled with the Origami Killer, a chilling figure who traps and drowns victims during rainstorms, perfectly fitting the game’s title. Visually, it resembles third-person action games like the Uncharted series, teeming with cinematic cutscenes and quick-time events. Yet, Heavy Rain isn’t about combat in the usual sense. Player interaction is minimal, making it feel like a playable TV drama where you need to hit button prompts on cue to see the story unfold as intended.
Interestingly, even if you miss those button prompts, the story doesn’t hit a dead end. This design choice opened the door for players who might not be gaming wizards but still wanted to experience the narrative without perfect reflexes. The developers probably didn’t expect players to mess up as much since pulling off the prompts isn’t all that tough. It takes some effort to truly fail. But when you do, different animations play out, showing things didn’t quite go as planned.
Then there’s this YouTube genius who decided to fail every prompt during an adrenaline-pumping chase scene. And trust me, it’s a comedy masterpiece. You’ll never look at Heavy Rain the same way. The unintended hilarity of the scene is so captivating that part of me wishes Heavy Rain had been a comedy instead of the intense thriller it is. Since its release, games like Untitled Goose Game and Thank Goodness You’re Here have embraced physical comedy, though Heavy Rain wasn’t crafted with laughs in mind. Yet, perhaps it paved the way for these wonderfully comedic games, because this particular scene is nothing short of pure comedic brilliance.
