If you have kids at home or you’re just a die-hard Pixar fan, and you’ve been caught in an Inside Out 2 binge recently, there’s some exciting (or maybe a little nerve-wracking) news. Dream Productions is bringing more of that universe to life this December, and the full trailer hints at a new twist.
Dropping on December 11 exclusively on Disney Plus, this new series has been in development for quite some time. After Inside Out 2 smashed box office records this year, pulling in nearly $1.7 billion globally and securing its spot as the highest-grossing animated film ever, Disney and Pixar shuffled their lineup. They decided to hold off on releasing the original series Win or Lose until early next year, making way instead for this four-episode story that fits snugly between the two Inside Out movies.
Straight from the creative minds at Disney and Pixar, here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect: The new show takes place in the gap between “Inside Out” and “Inside Out 2.” It’s set in Dream Productions, a vibrant hub inside Riley’s mind where dreams come to life nightly, always on schedule and within budget. As Riley matures and her memories require a bit more processing, Joy and the Core Emotions dispatch them to Dream Productions. There, director Paula Persimmon, voiced by Paula Pell, encounters her own challenges. She’s tasked with creating a blockbuster dream, all while collaborating with Xeni, a confident daydream director aiming for the big leagues, voiced by Richard Ayoade.

If you click play, you’ll notice that the animation is as stunning as ever, staying true to Pixar’s promise not to compromise on excellence as they venture further into the streaming scene. The result is a concise four-part miniseries totaling about 82 minutes, opting for quality over quantity. Meanwhile, the previously mentioned Win or Lose is set to be a more extensive project for Pixar.
Dream Productions is an effort to flesh out the ‘movie studio’ idea originally showcased in the first Inside Out movie back in 2015. This new series comes from Mike Jones, who co-authored Soul and Luca. Despite facing some hurdles with their releases during the pandemic, these films rank among Pixar’s finest recent work. And with Star Wars: Skeleton Crew also debuting in early December, families subscribed to Disney Plus can look forward to an array of appealing and meaningful content to enjoy together this Christmas.
