Recently, there have been whispers in the gaming community about possibly playing alongside Arrowhead developers in Helldivers 2. If you’ve found yourself wondering whether your in-game partner was a developer, you’re not alone. However, in a new post from Arrowhead, the studio is keen to address and dismiss these speculations.
As the Galactic War shifts gears and the DSS hums back to life, some players have taken to Reddit to share encounters with supposed developers identified by uniquely colored names. These reports have caught the attention of the gaming world, sparking rumors that some players might have been unknowingly engaging with developers.
Katherine ‘Baskinator’ Baskin, Arrowhead’s community manager, addressed these rumors in a post on the Helldivers 2 subreddit. “I’ve noticed discussions about Helldivers sporting different colored names and markers, stirring speculation about developers testing the game,” Baskin wrote. Her message was clear: these rumors needed debunking.
Firstly, she clarified, “Currently, we don’t use any special developer tags or identifiers while playing. Our names appear just like any other player’s in Helldivers 2.” So if you’ve been hoping to spot a dev in the wild by name color, it’s time to rethink your strategy because there won’t be any giveaway signs.
Additionally, Baskin explained that game testing isn’t conducted in live environments. “If someone claims they’re a developer and starts pulling off bizarre in-game feats or spawning items, they’re likely exploiting the system,” she warned. “Stay sharp, fellow Helldivers. Report any mischief to your Democracy Officer.”
The bottom line is that you might bump into Arrowhead team members during your missions, but they’re not conducting any live testing nor indulging in outlandish virtual antics.
In related news, Johan Pilestedt, the creative lead for Helldivers, recently engaged with a fan on Twitter regarding the possibility of expanding color customization to include armor. He conveyed that this idea is still under Arrowhead’s consideration.
