La Quimera, the eagerly anticipated sci-fi first-person shooter from Reburn, experienced an unexpected setback on its intended launch day. Initially slated for release on April 25, the game’s debut was postponed, and fans remain in the dark about a new release date.
Introduced just a couple of months ago, La Quimera marks the first major project from Reburn—composed of developers previously associated with the Metro series at 4A Games Ukraine. Set in a futuristic Latin America in 2064, the game has drawn attention for its striking visuals, unique art style, and intense gameplay. A closed beta conducted recently suggested everything was on track for a seamless rollout.
However, things didn’t go according to plan. Reburn’s CEO, Dmytro Lymar, announced the delay, citing “unforeseen challenges,” including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has impacted development and distribution. Lymar emphasized the team’s commitment to resolving these issues swiftly amidst challenging circumstances.
Adding a twist, reviews published shortly before the delay were less than favorable. The critiques pointed out elements like a brief playtime, lackluster storyline, awkward voice acting, and numerous bugs. With scores around 4/10 on Metacritic, the feedback might have prompted Reburn to reconsider the release timeline.
While the developer hasn’t set a new date, updates will be shared through their social media. This delay could allow Reburn to improve gameplay and perhaps expand the content, addressing technical issues and possibly enriching the narrative written by Nicolas Winding Refn, known for his work on Drive and contribution to Death Stranding.
Reburn remains optimistic about delivering a polished gaming experience, though it’s unclear how they will tackle the story elements that drew criticism. Players eagerly await any news, hoping for enhancements before the game eventually hits the market.
