A passionate Metroid enthusiast recently shared their impressive take on Samus Aran’s classic Varia Suit through a stunning cosplay. Complete with the iconic arm cannon and those unmistakable shoulder pads, the fan revealed their creation on social media alongside images of themselves showcasing the armor at a convention.

Since her debut in 1986’s Metroid, Samus Aran has cemented her place as one of Nintendo’s most iconic characters. Raised by the bird-like Chozo after the tragic loss of her family to Ridley and the Space Pirates, Samus was later infused with Chozo DNA. This unique upbringing enabled her to don the Power Suit, granting her the ability to endure hostile environments across various planets within the Galactic Federation. Armed with Power Bombs and a variety of beam attacks, Samus is undoubtedly one of gaming’s most formidable protagonists.

In homage to Samus’s most recognized form, an imaginative fan recreated her legendary Varia Suit. On Instagram, King_JohnnyVIII unveiled their dedication to the Metroid series with a homemade suit displayed at the Cleveland Gaming Classic in mid-September 2024. The ensemble boasted a blue laser cannon on the arm, vibrant orange shoulder pads, a gold chest piece, and that unforgettable blue visor. To ease movement at the crowded fan convention, King_JohnnyVIII opted for black shoes rather than the traditional armored boots. Curiously, the Instagram post also highlighted a colorful array of cosplays, including a squad of Halo’s Spartans and a Mandalorian with a whimsical Mario twist.

Even though Samus has inspired in-game tributes like those in Starfield, crafting a realistic cosplay of Nintendo’s renowned bounty hunter presents a significant challenge. The detail required for her suits is intricate and complex. Despite posting the pictures over four months ago, the cosplay garnered ongoing admiration and feedback, with fans still commenting up until February 7. King_JohnnyVIII shared that assembling the Varia Suit was a labor of love that spanned over two years, expressing gratitude for the support received throughout its creation.
