MSI has stepped forward to address rumors surrounding the NVIDIA RTX 5090, categorically denying claims that the card is being recalled due to a fire hazard. They also clarified that the retailer spreading the news isn’t one of their authorized partners.
### MSI Refutes “Fire Hazard” Rumors for NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 and Plans to Address False Claims
Yesterday’s buzz stemmed from a Dutch retailer’s assertion that the GeForce RTX 5090 faced recall over a “fire hazard,” allegedly involving an MSI SUPRIM model. The news quickly grabbed attention, seemingly prompting MSI to swiftly counter the rumors with an official statement, stressing their stance.
The statement read:
> “We were taken by surprise on 03/06/2025, when an article on the Kitguru website indicated that a Dutch outlet—UW GAME SPECIALIST—told a customer they couldn’t fulfill their order because 5 GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC units had supposedly been recalled due to a fire hazard.
> We want to assert that these claims are entirely untrue. There is no recall in progress, and our products do not pose any such risk. Additionally, this retailer is not among MSI’s authorized partners, nor do we collaborate with them.
> We’re considering legal measures against those propagating these defamatory claims that damage our brand’s image, as well as against anyone aiding their spread.”
MSI urged customers to make purchases only through their verified sellers, listing trusted names such as Megekko, Azerty, and Coolblue, among others.
So far, the concern over a potential defect with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 appears to be unfounded, which is reassuring in light of ongoing challenges like supply concerns and technical issues like missing ROPs or instances of black screens. In the meantime, consumers don’t need to fret over their RTX 5090 getting fried, but should continue installing their RTX Blackwell GPU with caution.
