Sony has discreetly released the version 4.0.1 system software update for the PS Portal, enhancing performance and bringing that ever-reliable stability to the gaming experience. Gamers have quickly spotted some notable improvements, particularly when it comes to cloud streaming, which seems to have taken a step forward.
In this update, dated December 12, 2024, the official patch notes cite improved system software performance and stability, alongside improved messaging and usability on certain screens. While these notes might seem vague, players on platforms like Reddit have shared their discoveries. Notably, users can now access the menu directly with the PS button on the handheld, eliminating the need to swipe—though, interestingly, this feature seems to be fully functional only during cloud streaming sessions. Additionally, gamers can now exit cloud streaming using the Home button.
The boost in cloud streaming goes beyond just navigation tweaks. Players have reported that certain games, such as “Watch Dogs: Legion” and “Final Fantasy VII Remake,” are now functioning more smoothly. Previously unstartable for some users, these games are now up and running without a hitch.
Though still in its beta phase, PS Portal’s direct cloud streaming has garnered positive feedback from the community. It performs admirably, allowing users to enjoy their games without needing to go through the PS5, marking a commendable innovation in the gaming experience.
