Today, Paramount and Sega surprised us with an exciting new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and fans will find a familiar nod to Pokémon within it.
It’s been a few months since we caught a glimpse of the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. With just about a month left until its release, fans have been eagerly waiting for more. For those who have been on the edge of their seats, today is your lucky day! The second official trailer dropped earlier, and it includes a delightful moment where a kid mistakes Tails for Detective Pikachu. Firstly, yes, they went there. Secondly, it was a delightful surprise. And thirdly, it makes me wonder about the potential for a crossover like that.
Imagine if Sonic characters took on the Pokémon world! I can’t see Sonic favoring Shaymin just because it’s a hedgehog. More likely, he’d vibe with Jolteon, given its impressive speed and that ‘cool guy’ aura Sonic embodies. Or maybe they’d explore something like, “What if Knuckles were a Pokémon?” The possibilities are intriguing! Regardless, the trailer is a bundle of fun and gives us a peek at a Chao-themed restaurant that’s definitely a must-see. Plus, there’s a poignant scene with Shadow and Maria, which is sure to tug at the heartstrings of anyone who gets emotional over Sonic lore (count me in that group!).
But wait, there’s more anticipation beyond what’s shown in the trailer. The film’s director, Jeff Fowler, has hinted at additional surprises. He mentioned a teaser within the movie itself, indicating more beloved characters could make their debut in upcoming sequels. He didn’t spill all the beans, but I’ve got a feeling Big the Cat might make an appearance.
