NVIDIA’s newest GPU drivers are creating quite a stir among enthusiasts, particularly for those using the GeForce RTX 40 series and even some older models. Strangely enough, NVIDIA hasn’t yet tackled these issues head-on.
Reports are pouring in that the 572.XX GPU driver is wreaking havoc on systems running on RTX 40 cards. Since January, when the RTX 50 series hit the market, NVIDIA’s attention appears to have shifted almost entirely towards fixing glitches for the newer batch of GPUs. While the RTX 50 series also faced its own share of challenges, the RTX 40 series was relatively stable with previous drivers. However, once the RTX 50-compatible drivers came into the picture, RTX 40 users began experiencing significant problems.
A Redditor, u/Soctty1992, shared their frustrations with the 572.XX drivers, noting several repeated issues from various users. The list includes critical system failures, blackouts, and other display-related headaches, which were seldom seen before the introduction of 572.XX.
The user also highlighted how many found solace by reverting to the older 566.XX drivers, which seemed to work smoothly before NVIDIA’s latest release on January 30. This new update was intended to accommodate the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, bringing cool features like DLSS 4, Multi-Frame Generation, and DLSS Override. While these aren’t outright causing the issues on their own, they contribute to a combination of factors that need deeper investigation.
One player’s experience with Cyberpunk 2077 on the RTX 4080 was marred by instant crashes, only resolved when rolling back to pre-572.XX drivers. Another RTX 4090 user faced blackouts and unresponsive monitors, also finding relief with the older 566.XX drivers.
It’s puzzling that NVIDIA hasn’t taken more proactive steps to address these persistent bug reports, which have been accumulating since back in January. Their efforts seem focused on resolving Blue Screen of Death errors for the RTX 50 series only, and even those fixes took several weeks. In the meantime, RTX 40 owners are resorting to older drivers, thereby missing out on the enticing perks offered by the latest updates, such as the Transformer Model DLSS 4, Ray Reconstruction enhancements, and new games added to the DLSS lineup.
