After numerous accounts of GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs suddenly failing, NVIDIA has begun to look into the issue.
### NVIDIA Investigates as RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D GPUs Face Widespread Failure
Over the past few days, there’s been a surge in complaints regarding the malfunctioning of RTX 5090 graphics cards, alongside reports of problems with the Chinese variant, RTX 5090D. Users are desperately trying various troubleshooting tactics, but the majority are still encountering persistent issues without a reliable fix.
A handful of users have claimed to resolve their problems using unconventional approaches. However, for most affected, their luck hasn’t been favorable, leaving them with non-functional graphics units. With the prevalence of these problems, NVIDIA has now stepped in. According to PC Gamer, NVIDIA issued a brief statement, saying:
> “We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.”

Although there’s no further information available yet, this acknowledgment indicates that NVIDIA is finally addressing the situation. For those unaware, the root of this problem lies in certain RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D models failing to display output on monitors after driver updates. Essentially, these GPUs show nothing but black screens post-update.
This issue arose consistently across many reports just after users applied the newest NVIDIA driver. It’s become so intricate that even reverting to older drivers fails to make the GPU recognizable to the system. Even BIOS resets have proven ineffective, as the GPUs don’t appear either in the Device Manager or BIOS.
While the specific cause remains elusive, some speculate it might involve architectural or driver compatibility conflicts, rather than being a hardware malfunction. Until NVIDIA provides a substantial update, the community remains without a surefire remedy to prevent these RTX 5090/5090D units from being permanently bricked.
