Stress Level Zero has really turned heads with their physics-based playground BONELAB (2022) on Quest. However, if you’ve been waiting for their earlier hit, the acclaimed action puzzler, BONEWORKS (2019), to appear on Meta’s standalone devices, your wait is nearly over.
If you’ve missed out on BONEWORKS on PC VR, here’s a quick catch-up. It’s a VR action game that weaves a narrative around cutting-edge physics mechanics. It’s a wild ride where you’ll be tackling environments with dynamic movement, delving into combat that demands you grapple with heavy physics, and unraveling puzzles that call for a cleverly creative approach.
In a recent post on Twitter, Brandon Laatsch, the co-founder of the studio, laid out their exciting plans for 2025. They’re committed not just to delivering updates for their Marrow Engine physics framework, which powers their work on the Unity engine, but also to bringing BONEWORKS to Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
Get a glimpse of what BONEWORKS will look like on Quest 3 right here:
Laatsch’s tweet highlights several goals for the year, such as rolling out three major patches for BONELAB and working on bringing BONEWORKS to Quest 3 in sync with their Marrow Engine updates. They’re also gearing up for pre-production on their next gaming venture.
Interestingly, Quest enthusiasts have been able to dive into Boneworks using a mod called ‘Labworks’, which is free and compatible with Quest 2 and up. This mod was a labor of love, taking indie developer ‘volx64’ two whole years to bring to life. Brandon has assured fans that Labworks will remain available, but he also mentions that the Marrow Engine will usher in more substantial enhancements than what a straightforward port could offer.
As for when to expect the official release, there’s no specific window yet. But you can bet we’re glued to Laatsch’s Twitter and the studio’s YouTube page for the latest news and announcements.
