When Sony first started bringing its exclusive games to the PC platform, it generated quite a buzz among gamers. The initial excitement was somewhat dampened, though, by the requirement to have a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to play these games. However, in a recent update, Sony has announced that players will no longer need a PSN account to enjoy some of their PlayStation games now available on PC.
A fresh post on the PlayStation Blog from Asad Qizilbash shed light on this much-anticipated change. Alongside this news, there are new in-game incentives coming to four popular PlayStation games on PC: God of War Ragnarok, the remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn, the soon-to-be-released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Starting tomorrow, players no longer need a PSN account to play these games, although those wanting to access the new incentives or collect trophies will still have to log in.
Qizilbash shares, “With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 hitting PCs tomorrow, we’re introducing more perks for those with a PlayStation Network account. God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, set to launch on April 3, 2025, will soon offer special in-game content for PSN users.”
“Using a PlayStation Network account will become optional for these PC titles,” he adds. “However, players who choose to sign in can still benefit from perks like trophies and managing their friend list.”
This update should be a relief to PlayStation fans who game on PC, especially since the need for a PSN account caused quite a stir after Helldivers 2 was released last year. While the exclusive perks won’t be accessible without an account, players have the freedom to enjoy the games without creating one, if they prefer.
For those open to signing up for a PSN account, here’s a glimpse of what each game offers in terms of in-game rewards:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Unlock iconic suits early, such as the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarok: Equip Kratos with the Armor of the Black Bear at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms, along with a bundle containing 500 Hacksilver and 250 XP.
- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered: Earn +50 points to activate bonus features and extras, including Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet for Ellie.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Unlock the stylish Nora Valiant outfit.
