A little over a year back, we ventured into the world of dedicated remote play with our PlayStation Portal remote player, aiming to blend the allure of console-caliber gaming with the convenience of a handheld. Introducing the PS Portal was a bold step for us, and it’s been heartening to witness the enthusiastic reception from our fans, affirming that our vision hit home with the gaming community.
Today, we’re excited to roll out a fresh system software update for the PS Portal, beginning later today for most, with Europe following suit on Wednesday. This update will fine-tune the audio experience, bringing along improvements like:
- Adjusting the speaker audio output to ensure the volume is even lower when set to minimum.
- Empowering you to tweak the settings of your PlayStation Link device right from the PS Portal Settings menu, thus optimizing both volume and sidetone volume.
Moreover, this update ushers in a new feature that’s had our fans buzzing with anticipation—support for cloud streaming on the PS Portal. Upon rollout, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can dive into the beta, which brings the thrill of streaming select PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog* directly from our servers, even without needing a PS5 console.
Since we’re in the beta phase of Cloud Streaming on PS Portal, expect the features to evolve, potentially altering as we refine the experience.
Here’s a closer dive into what this beta holds:
Features Available in the Beta
You can stream a curated selection of PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. Encompassing over 120 PS5 titles, gems like Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be streamable through PS Portal.
- Enjoy streaming quality up to 1080p/60fps**.
- Experience features of the DualSense wireless controller such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, speakers, and motion sensors***, all emulatable on PS Portal’s touchscreen.
PlayStation Plus Cloud storage allows you to save and seamlessly sync data with your PS5 console, with up to 100GB available for hassle-free transitions between local and streamed games.
For those interested, Cloud Streaming (Beta) is available via the PlayStation Plus Premium plan in several locations, including Austria, Canada, France, and the United States, among others.
How to Access Cloud Streaming (Beta)
To jump into the beta, you’ll need:
- A PlayStation Portal remote player.
- A PlayStation Network account****.
- An active PlayStation Plus Premium membership.
- A stable broadband internet connection with Wi-Fi.
- A minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps for standard cloud streaming, 7 Mbps for 720p, and 13 Mbps for 1080p.
Look forward to exploring this beta by updating your PS Portal software. Here’s how:
- Navigate to “Quick Menu,” open “Settings.”
- Select the “Cloud Streaming (Beta)” option.

After enabling Cloud Streaming (Beta) in the settings, your Home screen should present a new option to access cloud-streamed games. Disabling the beta will revert your Home screen to its usual layout.
Features Not Included in the Beta
Given we’re just starting to test public cloud streaming on the PS Portal, some features like Game Trials, PS Store game streaming, Party voice chat, certain game invites, and in-game commerce won’t be included just yet. Additionally, the gameplay experience is limited to PS5 games, excluding PS4 and PS3 titles.
We’re eager to hear your feedback and thrilled to invite many players to join in on the beta excitement!
