Back 4 Blood has had its share of mixed reactions, but an intriguing leak with a possibly whimsical codename hints that a sequel might be brewing.
Last year, we caught sight of a job listing from Turtle Rock, the team behind Back 4 Blood, hinting at another project in the vein of Left 4 Dead. This suggested Turtle Rock had plans to dive back into the co-op zombie shooter scene. Although details were scarce—let’s face it, studios aren’t known for spilling all the beans in job listings—a recent discovery by MP1st could have accidentally spilled the tea. An actor’s resume, known for his motion capture work on games like Gears of War, Dead by Daylight, and a Star Wars title (likely an EA Battlefront game), may have revealed something big: a sequel to Back 4 Blood might be in the cards.
In the motion capture credits, there’s a mention of a title called Gobi 2 from Turtle Rock Studios. For those who aren’t familiar, Gobi was the codename for the original Back 4 Blood. So, it seems plausible to think that Gobi 2 might just be Back 4 Blood 2. Admittedly, calling it Back 4 Blood 2 does sound a bit clunky—those numbers! But it’s even more laughable that they’ve reused the same codename with just a tweak.
Of course, we’re speculating here, but given the actor’s history of roles in other notable games, it’s reasonable to suspect he’s involved in something from Turtle Rock. Plus, a domain for Back 4 Blood 2 was registered back in May and remains active. Unless someone swooped in and snagged the domain, a sequel feels like a solid possibility.
While Back 4 Blood didn’t initially win everyone over, critiques are leaning more favorably now. Even at its debut, our own Sherif was quite impressed.
