Hey there! Oli here, steering the ship at Kaizen Game Works, the brilliant minds behind Paradise Killer. I’m beyond excited to reveal that we’ve just dropped the playable demo for our latest creation, Promise Mascot Agency, on the PS5. It’s an open-world extravaganza blending mascot management with crime drama, and you can dive into it right now!
Our team has poured countless hours into this game, and we’re buzzing with anticipation as PlayStation fans get their first taste. Straight talk: the PS5 is phenomenal. All of us at Kaizen are loyal PlayStation enthusiasts, having cut our gaming teeth on the original PlayStation through to the PS4. Personally, I’m an avid collector of PlayStation and PS2 titles, and those nostalgic classics have heavily influenced the design of Promise Mascot Agency.
You know those PS2 gems that let you just hang out and explore, like Way of the Samurai, Raw Danger, Boku No Natsuyasumi, and Steambot Chronicles? I adore them. They’re all about chilling out, meeting quirky characters, making pivotal choices, and exploring at your leisure. That’s the vibe we’ve aimed to capture—crafting a world rich with mysteries, eccentric personalities, hidden secrets, enjoyable gameplay challenges, and an impeccable atmosphere.
Step into the shoes of exiled yakuza lieutenant Michi, who partners with the mischievous Pinky to rescue a failing mascot agency and unravel the underworld conspiracy that landed him in a cursed coastal town in Japan. Here, mascots aren’t just figurines—they’re alive. The town of Kaso-Machi is a refuge for misfits struggling to find work elsewhere. Michi’s mission is to forge a new family of mascots, help them reach their aspirations, and ultimately save both the agency and his yakuza clan.
Kaso-Machi, under the shadow of a supernatural curse, offers a fascinating, trapped world. The central mountain serves as a playground for spirits and gods, while the town teems with superstitions and mystical stories. Michi can delve into various mysteries, from spectral sightings to the elusive Tsuchinoko creature. But time isn’t on his side—the curse is lethal to yakuza visitors. Can Michi solve the conspiracy and rescue the agency before the curse claims him?
We began this journey four years ago, collaborating with creative talents like Ikumi Nakamura and Mai Mattori to shape our characters and world. With a mix of Kaizen’s distinctive style and Nakamura’s flair, we’ve crafted a game that’s bizarre yet nostalgically unique. As a western studio, we’ve teamed up with Japanese artists, musicians, and creatives to imbue our world with vibrancy and authenticity, often giving them free rein to infuse personal meaning into the game. This approach has resulted in a tapestry of influences and experiences enriching the game.
Recently, we unveiled an exciting lineup of voice actors, including the renowned Takaya Kuroda as Michi. We never imagined we’d have voice acting, let alone welcome Kuroda-san to the team so casually! He pairs with Ayano Shibuya’s Pinky, creating a dynamic duo akin to buddy cops. Our cast features numerous stellar talents, including the debut voice roles of Shuhei Yoshida and SWERY.
As a small team, creating a sprawling, zany, and generous 20-hour open-world RPG has been a colossal effort. We’re thrilled to share it with you and can’t wait for you to experience the demo, complete with PS5’s DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers, and speaker features. More details on the full release will be coming soon. Till then, dive in, embrace your promises, and chase those dreams!
