Recently, indie publisher Reforged Studios made headlines with its third acquisition of the year, bringing South African developer Yellow Lab Games into the fold.
While it’s still under wraps how much Reforged shelled out for this acquisition, what we do know, as reported by GI.biz, is that Yellow Lab Games will maintain its independent operations. Fans can look forward to their roguelite RPG, Metavoidal, hitting Steam in the first quarter of 2025.
This move follows Reforged’s earlier acquisitions of Ground Shatter and Extra Mile Studios just a few months ago in August.
Peter Van Der Watt, the CEO and founder of Reforged, expressed his excitement about the acquisition: “Having grown up in South Africa, I’ve always appreciated the wealth of game development talent that thrives there. Yellow Lab Games caught my eye especially with the buzz around Metavoidal, marking their entry into the PC and console gaming spheres.”
He continued, “Since I moved to Scotland in 2011 to establish my first game studio, I’ve been advocating for South African game development on the global stage. Today, the enthusiasm I have is shared by the entire board at Reforged. So, when the chance to welcome David Hecker and his talented team to our group presented itself, we jumped at it. We’re thrilled to bring South Africa’s leading game creators into the Reforged family and see this as just the start of deeper investment in Africa’s growing gaming industry.”
