An intriguing whisper from the world of Mortal Kombat suggests that a potential expansion for Mortal Kombat 1 has been quietly shelved. Originally, there was chatter about a new Kombat Pack and an additional story expansion, but if insider information is to be believed, those plans have now been scrapped. The rumored cancellation seems to stem from underwhelming sales of the previous expansion.
Over on the Mortal Kombat Leaks subreddit, a user known as _FateUnknown_ stirred up the community by revealing that NetherRealm had intentions for a Kombat Pack 3 and more narrative content. Unfortunately, these were recently taken off the table, with no plans to introduce new characters beyond Kombat Pack 2.
“Kombat pack 3 and a second story expansion were in the works. They’ve all been canceled recently, so don’t expect more characters after kombat pack 2,” _FateUnknown_ shared. They’ve also hinted that a couple of additional kameo characters might still make it into the game, although that’s up in the air for now.
On being pressed for reasons behind the decision, they simply pointed to poor sales of “Khaos Reigns.” As with all rumors, it’s smart to maintain a healthy skepticism. However, _FateUnknown_ holds the status of a “verified insider” within the community, earning some level of credibility. It’s a matter of waiting to see how things unfold once the current lineup of guest characters is complete.
Speaking of new arrivals, Ghostface has just sliced into Mortal Kombat 1, bringing with them some cleverly nostalgic nods to the Scream series. Fans are sure to love the fatality dripping with meta-humor.
The excitement doesn’t end there. Mortal Kombat 1 is still set to welcome the T-1000 from Terminator 2 and Conan the Barbarian, inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic role. Dates for these fighters are yet to be disclosed, keeping the anticipation alive.
Since its launch in September, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns has packed quite the punch, offering a story expansion along with Kombat Pack 2. Characters included in this lineup are Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, among others like Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian. In a tempting Black Friday deal, you can grab the base game plus the expansion at a cool 50% off.
