The reviewed model features a respectable Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, and 1TB SSD, all backed by a two-year warranty. Although MSI provides an MSRP of $667, it’s difficult to find this setup at that price. Instead, higher-priced configurations are available, like one with 32GB RAM selling for $1,229. This pricing discrepancy remains a challenge for now, but less costly options abound in the market.

Along with the mini PC, you’ll find a power adapter, cable, VESA mount, and external power button. Surprisingly, an HDMI cable isn’t included, so you’ll need one to connect your display.

With its straightforward black design, the Cubi NUC 13MQ transitions seamlessly between home and business environments. It takes up as much desk space as a bagel and fits conveniently beneath your monitor. The VESA mount provides flexibility for more discreet placements.

An external power button on a cable offers easy access and can be mounted for convenience. This is especially handy if the PC is hidden from view.

The array of ports ensures easy connectivity for various peripherals and supports up to four displays. It includes Thunderbolt 4, USB-A 3.2, HDMI, a microSD card reader, LAN, and a headphone jack, accommodating most setup requirements.

Component Access and Upgradability

Accessing the innards of the Cubi NUC 13MQ is straightforward: just unscrew the screws in the rubber feet. Inside, you can upgrade memory, SSDs, and HDDs easily.

Over my testing period, I noticed tasks like launching Photoshop took longer than expected, yet no crashes occurred. The mini PC’s performance in benchmark tests like Geekbench and Cinebench met expectations in some areas but underperformed in others.

In graphics tests, the Iris Xe Graphics delivered as anticipated, while the SSD showed decent read/write speeds despite some sluggish performance. System testing with CrossMark rendered an average score, indicating room for improvement.

Thermals and Noise

Thermal readings during stress tests were reasonable, with temperatures maxing at 95 degrees F on top and 128 degrees F at the back vents. Noise did pose a bit of a challenge due to a pronounced high-pitched whine, which could be distracting in quiet environments.
