ILM and Lucasfilm have stirred excitement with the announcement of a fresh Star Wars adventure titled Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. This eagerly awaited game will be available exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S. Set in the period surrounding the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story from 2018, it promises an experience rich with nostalgic elements and new surprises.
Though details remain scarce, there’s a buzz about the possibility of engaging in some thrilling podracing scenarios. ILM revealed that players will have the chance to encounter the podracer, Volo Bolus, and team up with the renowned Sebulba. This promises to be an action-packed addition to the mixed reality experience, complete with the sounds of roaring engines.
Given the label "Playset," it’s reasonable to anticipate a variety of mixed reality mini-games. ILM, however, is known for its careful and measured release of information regarding their XR games. As the release date has yet to be announced and no trailer is available, fans will need to stay tuned for more snippet updates.
Those looking for an early taste won’t have to wait too long. Attendees at the Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo are set to get the first hands-on impressions in April. The event will feature numerous demo stations, where visitors can also revisit previous VR titles by the studio, like Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
So, why choose mixed reality for this project? Jose Perez III, who leads the development of Star Wars: Beyond Victory, shared some insights. He explained that mixed reality provides exciting opportunities for bringing the universe of Star Wars directly into players’ living spaces, offering a unique level of immersion never achieved before. It’s worth noting that Meta’s significant financial backing likely plays a crucial role in bringing this ambitious mixed reality project to life, much like ILM’s earlier Star Wars VR ventures.
